Cross dressing, homosexuality, corruption in the police force, and fraudulent Barristers are central themes of A.K. Plahi’s new crime novel.

Pretty Lies and the Ugly Truth

A.K. Plahi’s first novel, Pretty Lies and the Ugly Truth, is not only a crime novel, but a satire on British society. Cross dressing, homosexuality, corruption in the police force, and fraudulent Barristers are central themes of A.K. Plahi’s novel, and they come with a tinge of teen angst.

Book Synopsis

The charming nature of a sleepy Gloucestershire village, Glamview is tainted when a murder is committed. Adrian Wentworth a prominent drag queen clothing manufacturer is found strangled on his factory floor. The leading Inspectors, DI Wilkes and DI Summers, already suspect his long term rival Michel Rochelle, but the turbulence heightens as their investigation continues.

As one customer review stated, “Don’t judge this book by its cover. It’s full of crazy twists and turns; it’s also darkly comic.”

In an excerpt from chapter five titled ‘From class acts to drag acts,’ Plahi writes, “They are about to enter his office which is two doors on the right, but he sees Ophelia Cox’s stilettos pounding the marble arch lobby; she was coming from the mannequin room which was on the factory floor. His real name was Alexi Harriman; he was just a homeless sixteen year old who was performing as a cross dressing cabaret act when he came to work at Michel’s factory. His family disowned him after his mother had found out about his escapades. Michel gave him a job and a place to live. He built a separate accommodation for his workers and himself, which was literally on top of the fascinating Oakland Terrace Factory of Dreams.”

The mysterious thriller released in July 2012 by AuthorHouse, an Author Solutions brand and book publishing company, is now available on Waterstones in paperback or electronic copy.  It can also be purchased from Amazonor Barnes & Noble.
