“New” is Yuzima’s emotive April single from The Machine. In his 2014 promotion Nine Months of The Machine, Yuzima is taking nine months to go into depth on all nine songs from his latest LP. As the story goes, like many of Yuzima’s songs “New” was conceived partly in a dream. Yuzima explains, “The chorus and the melody were from the dream while the narrative and lyrics came later, I got up and sang it into my recorder”. “New” was also the last song he recorded for the LP. “I needed a ballad kind of “Purple Rain” tune – so I wrote about the beginning of a relationship like the beginning of a season or something new”, “The idea is that we’re all trying to escape the machine and on “New” it’s when we actually do it”. Yuzima layered blistery guitars over machine synths to match the belted chorus. On a song built around sentiment Yuzima doesn’t miss a chance to experiment. He continues, “I left the instruments a little separate to add drama and make it sound big in it’s own way”.
