The Headstart Campaign is an initiative that allows LGBT non-profits to generate proceeds from events, fundraising drives and giving platforms like the one EqualityCard® offers, throughout the year, enabling non-profits to have donations already committed at the “starting line” on Give OUT Day each year. That “Headstart” will help LGBT nonprofits increase their overall tally on the Give OUT Day leaderboard that participants have grown so accustomed to over the last two years. On Give OUT Day thousands of people across the country donate to hundreds of their favourite LGBTQ nonprofits.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Give OUT Day through its new Headstart Campaign,” said Nick Lepetsos, Founder/CEO of EqualityCard®. “This relationship with Give OUT Day is a natural fit, as we both have a similar purpose of increasing funding for LGBT non-profits across the movement to help advance equality. Our credit card will allow Give OUT Day donors to generate proceeds throughout the year that can be directed to their favorite non-profit on Give OUT Day. We feel that it is a great way to keep the energy and enthusiasm surrounding Give OUT Day alive all year long.”
EqualityCard’s involvement will include promoting Give OUT Day to its cardholders and encouraging them to participate in the day-long crowdfunding event using their EqualityCards. Give OUT Day will in turn ask those who take part in its day of giving to consider applying for an EqualityCard® Visa so they can generate donations in the amount of 1 percent of their purchases to distribute through the Give OUT Day platform.
“Give OUT Day is excited about the Headstart Campaign, and our partnership with EqualityCard®,” said Jason Franklin, Executive Director of Bolder Giving, which hosts Give OUT Day. “We are so encouraged each year by the number of people who support the LGBT movement on Give OUT Day, and we are excited about the opportunity to offer our Give OUT Day participants additional ways to augment their giving through our platform.”
Last year Give OUT day raised over $1 million from 12,000 donors and provided donations to 500+ LGBT organisations. Since its launch in February of 2014, EqualityCard® has added 2,000 new cardholders and more than 60 LGBT non-profit affiliates, raising nearly $40,000 for the LGBT movement. Both entities have goals to greatly increase their impact in 2015.
