Erskine College, a Division II school in the small town of Due West, S.C., issued a statement saying all students are expected to follow the Bible’s teachings about sexuality.
“The release of this statement makes me disappointed because I have never received anything but kind treatment from everyone at this school, and my sexual orientation is no secret. So it took me by surprise,” Juan Varona told OutSports on Thursday.

Erskine College is promoting prejudices, homophobia and hate. Something any college anywhere should fight against – but clearly Erskine College want to create a unsafe space at Erskine College for LGBT college students. This is unforgivable for for a school to do. Erskine College has clearly misunderstood their task, instead being supportive for all students whatever sexual orientation – they chose to be unsupportive for LGBT student and supportive for straight students.
