Author of "The Good Fundamentalist” Issues Powerful Statement on Same Sex Marriage and the Church

Same Sex Marriage 02

Minister, theologian and author John Killinger, issued the following statement today regarding same-sex marriage and the Presbyterian Church:

“Congratulations to the Presbyterian Church, USA, for its ground- breaking decision to embrace same-sex marriage as part of its Christian commitment to everyone, regardless of sexual preference. I wish I could claim that my novel The Good Fundamentalist had a part in moving some folks toward that decision, but I can’t. It was simply their conviction that their arms, like Christ’s, should be wide open to everybody. Here’s hoping that other communions will soon show the same loving openness.”

About the Book

The Good Fundamentalist, (Intermundia), is a heart wrenching fictional account based on a true story that sheds new light on the controversy over homosexuality and gay marriage in the church. The Good Fundamentalist is set in small town Kentucky and explores the crisis of faith and flock surrounding a fundamentalist Baptist minister as he faces the reality of homosexuality and same sex marriage in his own family. Killinger issued the statement as the United Methodist Church considers a potential division of the denomination over the issue of same-sex marriage.
