Invitations were sent out, the food ordered and premises in box, but then came the day of baptism conversation with the priest.

Norway

The couple had long looked forward to the baptism. But when they came to baptism conversation with the priest, the joy vanished, writes Stavanger Aftenblad (behind paywall).

We experienced being rebuked by the priest because we had chosen to bring children into the world. He referred several times to the Bible. There was no end to how much we have sinned, says Maren Osland.

The couple felt that the priest spent most of baptism conversation to condemn their choices.

The priest does not work as a priest in the Norwegian Church today.

Only days before baptism came the message that a youth pastor had agreed to baptise twins.

All children are welcome, regardless of the cohabitation to the parents, says provost in Jæren deanery, Kjell Borge Tjemsland.

The provost hasn’t heard about the episode the twin parents are sharing with Aftenbladet.

The couple has chosen to tell the story to Aftenbladet. They hope that others should not have to experience being met in this way by the church.
