Football has ‘reactionary and homophobic’ attitude, Tory MP claims

Failing to tackle homophobia in sport could be leading to a drain in talent, a Tory MP has warned, amid accusations football had taken a "reactionary and quite frankly homophobic" attitude to the problem.

Stuart Andrew Pudsey said nobody should have to choose between playing sport or being open about their sexuality, as he pleaded with sports governing bodies to take fresh action on the problem.

The Westminster Hall debate on homophobia in sport also saw the Football Association (FA) warned it was being left behind in its attempts to address the issue, with senior Tory Damian Collins questioning the culture of the sport compared to rugby league.
