With stunning vocals, intelligent lyricism and a catchy hook, ‘World’s On Fire’ is the perfect introduction to this exciting new artist. Despite its obvious pop qualities, Holloway’s lyrics still carry real weight, exploring the issues and pitfalls faced by her generation and tying it in with a feeling of togetherness, determination and empowerment.

“I wrote it back in the summer of 2016 when a lot of strange and sad things were happening,” says Lots. “Brexit, the Orlando shooting, the Bastille Day attack, the U.S presidential battle, the refugee crisis and the on going war in Syria, to name just a few. The song wasn’t inspired by any particular event, but more the amalgamation of them as a whole, it’s an observation of the world in which we’ve found ourselves.”

And don’t miss the accompanying video which further showcases this underlying political voice, with Holloway performing behind a backdrop of news clips and topical footage. “It’s a direct reflection of the lyrics,” says Lots. “I wanted to show examples of the chaos I speak about in the song. We shot the video in an old farm building with no heating and at one point it was below 0 degrees. You’ll see just how cold it was from how visible my breath is in some of the shots.”

Born in a small town in Cornwall, Lots spent most of her childhood writing lyrics and teaching herself how to play different instruments after being inspired by some of the songs in her parent’s vast collection of music. First the drums, then the guitar, the bass, and finally the piano. Once Lots had mastered each of these elements individually, she began to merge them, along with her lyrics, and started crafting and arranging entire songs.

Since moving to London in 2011 she’s continued to hone in on her own musical style, taking inspiration from icons such as Talking Heads, David Bowie and Kate Bush, combining this with her own natural talent and diverse ability as a singer-songwriter.

Alongside heavyweight producer Mike Hedges (The Cure, Manic Street Preachers, U2), Holloway recorded a number of tracks in Bryan Ferry’s personal studio; a studio exploding with retro synths and iconic instruments (some of which belonging to the legendary Brian Eno). ‘World’s On Fire’ is first single from the collection, and is supported by the tender B-side track ‘Is Anything Real Anymore?

With plans to continue recording throughout 2017 for her debut album, to be released later this year, and a string of UK dates to be announced, Lots Holloway is certainly one to watch.

Releases Her Debut Single ‘World’s On Fire’ March 10 2017.
