More than a third of transgender Canadians between the ages of 14 and 25 say they've attempted suicide, according to a new survey.

Researchers say they did the first-of-its-kind study, called Being Safe, Being Me, to document the “challenges and resilience of trans youth in Canada, and to identify ways that future youth health research can better include this often overlooked population.”

The University of British Columbia researchers say 923 transgender young people from across the country completed the online survey.
