U.S. Army fires gay officer
A gay activist has been discharged from the New York Army National Guard for breaking the U.S. military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy on homosexuality.
Lt. Dan Choi was honourably discharged under the controversial policy which prohibits the military from asking about sexual orientation but also requires the dismissal of those who acknowledge being gay or are found to be engaging in homosexual activities, Fox News reported Friday.
Earlier this year Choi, who is openly gay, chained himself to a fence outside the White House in Washington, D.C., and demanded that U.S. President Barack Obama end the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, Toronto Sun reports.
