The Halton Catholic District School Board will take a second look at its  controversial policy banning gay-straight student clubs at its schools.

The policy committee voted 6-2 Tuesday to recommend the board rescind its operating policy on equity and inclusive education.

That policy, approved by the former board last November and which bans gay-straight student clubs, has sparked outrage from human rights groups, launched a Facebook protest petition and caused a flurry on the Internet.

Newly elected trustee John Mark Rowe made the motion that the board replace the policy with one issued by the Ontario Education Services Corp.

Rowe called the board’s four-page equity policy “poorly thought out” and “unbalanced”, Parent Central reports.
