Ron Ginsburg to Receive the “Founding Father” Award from Orlando’s HRC Steering Committee
The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organisation, today announced that Ron Ginsburg would receive the “Founding Father” Award at the COOK Orlando 2011 VIP Dinner on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
The HRC Orlando Steering Committee is proud to present Ron Ginsburg with the one-time “Founding Father” award in appreciation for his vision of, and contribution to, creating a robust Human Rights Campaign volunteer community in Central Florida.
“Leading up to the 2004 presidential election, Ron recognised that his hometown should have a strong HRC presence and he took the initiative to make it happen” said Jennifer Foster.
“By providing unwavering support and encouragement to a few local HRC volunteers in Orlando at the time, and by tapping into his relationships with several Orlando gay community leaders, Ron nurtured HRC Orlando from its infancy as an online meet-up group into an extraordinarily active and politically influential powerhouse” added John Ruffier.
Foster and Ruffier were both encouraged, by Ginsburg, to take on the role of Orlando’s first HRC Steering Committee Co-Chairs and currently serve as members of the organization’s Board of Governors.
HRC Orlando continues to thrive as an entirely volunteer-based community and has received numerous national awards over the past six years, including HRC’s coveted Steering Committee of the Year and Federal Club of the Year awards.
The COOK 2011 event is the first of its kind for the Orlando Steering Committee and will serve as the community’s signature fundraising event with a VIP Dinner on Saturday evening followed by a Quick Fire Cooking Challenge on Sunday where local chefs compete for top honors.
