Transgender Motivational Coach Offers Post-Holiday Support to Trans Community
A motivational coach for the trans community is offering a free guide to overcoming stress related to having experienced family problems over the holidays due to misgendering.
FTM motivational coach Jack Ori has published a new guide for trans people who need help recovering from holiday stress. The guide, which is available as a free article on Ori’s website, explores ways to detach from and handle stress related to being misgendered by family during the holidays.
“Family get-togethers during the holidays can be especially hard for people whose families are not fully accepting of their gender identities,” Ori explained. “I remember one Thanksgiving where I spent the entire holiday hiding in my childhood bedroom so I wouldn’t be constantly misgendered, and I wanted to be a voice of reassurement to others who may be struggling with that this year.”
The guide offers concrete steps that trans people can take to process and overcome feelings of anger, pain and sadness related to having to spend time with family that misgenders them. It is aimed at people who have come out to their families and are still welcome at the holiday table, but are not acknowledged or accepted as the gender they identify with. Ori also welcomes parents of trans individuals to read the guide so that they can better understand and support their trans children. This article will eventually become part of a new ebook about coming out and related challenges for trans people and their families that Ori expects to publish in the spring.
“My basic mission is to help trans people realize that there is hope for a relationship with their families,” Ori said. “If your family hasn’t disowned you for being who you are, that’s a great first step towards authentic relationships. My guide can help trans* people be patient while their families go through their own transitions while helping them set boundaries as needed to protect themselves from unnecessary stress.”
In addition to the guide for trans people, Ori offers one-on-one coaching services for members of the trans community and/or their families to help them understand themselves and improve communication and personal skills.
