A gay couple have claimed they were denied a double room by a receptionist at London’s Thistle City Barbican hotel.

Nick Hurley, 22, and Gavin Maclean, 28, had booked the room, requesting one double bed, at east London’s Thistle City Barbican hotel but said they were continually asked ‘are you sure you don’t want single beds?’

Mr Hurley said: ‘I believe I’ve been treated in a homophobic way.’

‘We’re sorry to hear this. We take matters like this very seriously and we are investigating,’ said Chris King, spokesman for Thistle Hotels.
