A City trader was subjected to a “heartbreaking” campaign of homophobic abuse even though he was a happily married heterosexual, a tribunal heard.
Father-of-two Barney James suffered a barrage of abuse from fellow bankers at BGC Partners LP for six years. His colleagues, whom he said took drugs and used prostitutes, called him “fat homo” and “big angry gay”, the hearing was told.
For years he did not complain because he believed it would be “professional suicide”. But finally he quit and sued the bank for major damages for constructive dismissal at East London Employment Tribunal.
