Publisher branded a homophobe after refusing to print gay magazine

The owner of a Portadown media organisation has been labelled a homophobe after he refused to print a magazine for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Northern Ireland.

Nick Williamson of Blufire Media has been reported to the Equality Commission after he said he could not have his business associated with the first print edition of MyGayZine.

The online magazine is bringing out a publication in June to coincide with the Belfast Gay Pride event and approached Blufire Media for a quote.

But Mr Williamson, a Christian, told MyGayZine editor Danny Toner in an email exchange that working alongside the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT) “would be a contradiction of my faith”.
