An employment tribunal judge ruled that “such a comment would not have been made to a heterosexual man or woman in similar circumstances”


The managing director of a Guildford recycling firm who asked a gay employee whether he had Aids must pay him £700 in damages.

Jack Howell, from Deepcut, said he was “mortified” when Peter Chambers made the homophobic jibe after he came out of the toilet looking pale and sweating.

The office manager was awarded compensation by an employment tribunal judge on Wednesday (January 29) after a panel ruled that the comment “harassed” Mr Howell, 36, on the grounds of his sexual orientation.
