Jason Collins has become the first openly gay professional basketball player in America's NBA.


He signed a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday.

He will join the Nets for their game on Sunday night against the Lakers in Los Angeles.

The 35-year-old centre – a position typically reserved for the biggest players – revealed he is gay at the end of last season, but at the time he was not signed to a team.
