Family Equality Council®, the U.S national organisation which connects, supports, and represents the estimated three million parents who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer in the United States and their six million children of all ages praises President Barack Obama, following Monday’s announcement at a White House LGBT Pride reception that he will issue an executive order that bans discrimination against transgender federal employees.

President Obama

“At the White House last night in a room full of LGBTQ advocates and allies, President Barack Obama once again demonstrated his commitment to equality by announcing that he will bar the Federal Government from discriminating against transgender federal workers,” said Executive Director Gabriel Blau. “This President has done more for our community than any other, and yesterday, as we gathered in the East Room of the White House to celebrate LGBT Pride, he proved it once again by outlining yet another plan to ensure protections for the LGBTQ families we serve— including transgender parents— so that they may better provide security and stability for their children.”

This announcement comes on the heels of another historic gathering at the White House. Just last week Family Equality Council representatives joined the White House, the Department of Labor, and the Center for American Progress for the first-ever Summit on Working Families. The Summit focused on creating a 21st century workplace that is fair to all working families, including LGBTQ families.
