Nick Jonas Talks “Gay Icon” Status
Now that Nick Jonas has ditched his squeaky-clean, purity-ring-wearing, tween idol identity, he’s free to speak candidly about everything from his gay fanbase to smoking weed, which he does in the new issue of Rolling Stone. As he puts it, "My Disney years feel like a long, long time ago."
The Jonas Brother-turned-solo star spoke to Rolling Stone about re-launching his career and becoming a bonafide sex symbol. Thanks to his hit song “Jealous” and his racy, ab-baring photos, Nick’s sparked a successful second act for himself, and gained a lot of new fans in the process. Gay fans in particular have responded to his new image, as well as his role as a closeted mixed martial arts fighter on DirecTV’s Kingdom.
“I don’t know if I’d necessarily call myself a gay icon,” Nick said. “But my goal in the last year was to expand and grow as a person and an artist, and embracing my gay fans was a priority. Some of my gay friends have thanked me for that, and that’s a really good feeling.”
