Gay couples are to be officially recognised by the Royal Mail after bosses at the company agreed to introduce ‘Mr and Mr’ and ‘Mrs and Mrs’ titles to its website.
The postal firm had faced criticism after customers trying to send letters to gay couples were given an error message when they typed in the same-sex marriage-friendly titles.
Gay marriage became legal just over a year ago – and civil partnerships have been around for almost a decade.
Responding to changes in the law – and complaints from customers – Royal Mail chiefs have now promised to change its online postal system.
