A young boy who was raped during his time at a Victorian youth training centre was made to have shock treatment to “cure his homosexuality”, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has heard.

The inquiry was told that many children were subjected to horrific sexual abuse at the state’s training centres over several decades up until the 1990s.

Some boys were raped, others regularly strip-searched and many had to endure intrusive medical procedures, while girls were given contraceptive injections.
