It was disagreement in the Oslo diocesan council, but a majority voted for the church to take more space during the pride festival in Oslo, Norway.

At the church elections last fall, «Open Folk Church» / «Åpen Folkekirke» was promoting to en end the discrimination of LGBT’s and that the church should be for everyone. Five of seven members who were elected in Oslo diocesan council came from the «Open Folk Church», which received 46,065 of the total 60,270 votes, Osloby.no reports.

Friday, March 11,  Oslo diocesan council adopted a tripartite decision, which states the following:

  • «Oslo diocesan council supports efforts to ensure that lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people should be recognised and have the same rights as the rest of the population, both in the Church and in the society.»
  • «Oslo diocesan council will treat all lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people in line with other applicants when hiring. Anyone who wants to work in the diocese, are encouraged to apply for vacant positions.»
  • «Oslo diocesan council encourage congregations in the diocese to engage and draw attention to the Norwegian Church’s presence at this year’s Oslo Pride

This is a very good step forward, here has churches around the world something to learn.
