Syttende Gay in Seattle

In 2006, an alternative event was created for the annual Syttende Mai (Seventeenth of May) to celebrate Norwegian Constitution Day in Ballard.

This alternative event became known as Syttende Gay, which was a play on words of Syttende Mai and we are that alternative event for the LGBT guests as well as anyone who simply is supportive. Syttende Gay is a non-profit event that is produced by Kwanchai Events.

Although this particular event focuses on the LGBT side, their main focus is to also to promote and celebrate Norwegian culture and the long standing tradition in BallardSeattle for 127 years.

In this ever changing city of theirs, it is important to preserve the many cultural aspects of their neighbourhoods and also their unique ways that enrich their city. Just like the rainbow flag each colour comes together to create a beautiful rainbow.

At this years events, they welcome back Haffi Haff, a Seattle native and known gay entertainer Vocalist & DJ in Iceland. Haffi Haff will be the musical mixologist and performer during the event.

Also returning is their beloved Drag Artist Iona Trailer, as well they will be doing a charitable fundraiser for Diverse Harmony.

Syttende Gay is celebrated by LGBT community with a Norwegian heritage in Seattle, but they are also joined by neighbouring Scandinavian countries heritage as well. So it’s in reality a big Scandinavian event.
