Jesus Tomillero recently revealed his sexuality in an interview with El Espanol, however he’s faced abuse ever since. MySoCalledGayLife.co.uk wrote about Jesus Tomillero story in the beginning of April this year – about the homophobia that he has experienced during a match in La Línea de la Concepción, Andalucia.

The final straw according to 101 Great Goals was abuse which happened in a match between Portuense and San Fernando Isleño. According to the referee, he had to listen to homophobic comments.

It’s sad to hear that referee Jesus Tomillero quits because of homophobia – we wish him the best in the future. Jesus Tomillero story clearly confirms that organisation like Just A Ball Game? are needed everywhere in football to fight homophobia.
