CNN is now reporting that 50 people were killed inside the Pulse Orlando club and at least 53 people were injured, police say. The gunman was Omar Mateen of Ft. Pierce, Florida, a law enforcement source told CNN.

Mateen had active security officer and firearm licenses, according to Florida records, and his family said he worked in security. Investigators told NBC News that the FBI was looking into Mateen three years ago, but the focus on the investigation wasn’t on him, but rather on people he had been in contact with.

As we reported earlier today : Orlando police shot and killed Mateen.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack on jihadi forums, but ISIS sympathisers have reacted by praising the attack on pro-Islamic State forums according to CNN.

Authorities are also looking into the possibility the attack was a hate crime, a law enforcement source told CNN.
