Conservative mayors are trying to censor a French government campaign advocating safe sex among gay men, and the country’s health minister, Marisol Touraine, is taking them to court.
“For life, for a weekend… With a lover, a friend, a stranger … Situations vary, so does protection,” read Warhol-style posters on bus stops across the country that show male couples holding each other, poised for a kiss.
The right-wing mayor of the Western city of Angers has already ordered the posters be taken down if they are close to a school, and the Paris suburb of Aulnay-sous-Bois is working to ban them entirely, according to BFMTV.
