Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund joins millions of advocates across the world in honouring the 49 precious souls taken in a heinous act of violence one year ago today at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.

Tribute to Pulse Orlando victims

The majority of those killed were young, LGBTQ and Latinx. They were out enjoying Latin night at the club during Pride Month. On this one-year commemoration of the Pulse massacre, Transgender Legal stands with our community in mourning the devastating loss and calling for an end to violence against our communities.

Statement from Transgender Legal Executive Director Jillian Weiss

Today we reflect on the lives of 49 beautiful people who were out celebrating their vibrant, authentic selves one year ago at Pulse. What started as a celebration of Pride ended in a massacre. Far too often our communities are singled out, attacked and killed, simply for being ourselves. Violence facing LGBTQ people is still rampant, particularly against transgender women of color. Prejudice is the cause of such violence, and we recommit ourselves to erasing it from our society. As we mark the one-year remembrance of the Pulse shooting, we stand shoulder to shoulder with all those impacted by the event. We pay tribute to the fallen. Their deaths will never be in vain. We will continue to take strong, positive actions that confront bias, address hate violence and help create a world of love and acceptance, strengthened by the sacrifices of our loved ones.”
