Cub Sport – «Chasin’»
Brisbane’s acclaimed alt-pop quartet Cub Sport release their new single, Chasin’, the second track taken from their brand new album BATS – out now.
Written after a long trip overseas, during which front man Tim Nelson first realised he was in love with bandmate Sam, Chasin’ showcases the honest and open song writing seen throughout the entire album. «It was equal parts exciting and distressing» says Tim. «I’d hardly come out to myself and the idea of coming out to anyone else was terrifying. I feel like Chasin’ ties together all of the feelings I had during this time».
The dreamy visual finds the band challenging typical standards of masculinity and beauty by celebrating and finding strength in softness.
Whilst rooted in pop, new album BATS is an unhindered sonic exploration steeped with soul and R&B influences – a 13 track collection imbued with a distinct aura of honesty, vulnerability and sincerity. It’s the sound of a band hitting their stride and truly making their mark. «’BATS ‘is an intimate album inspired by experiences of self-doubt, growth, partying, coming out, learning the power of self-acceptance, self-belief and falling in love» says Tim.
«BATS» is the first new material since band members Tim and Sam came out as gay and in a relationship in mid-2016. Standing alongside out-and-proud guitarist Zoe, the group use their platform to speak out against homophobia. The band develop and encourage a safe community on their social media channels and at their live performances, as well as donating a portion of live ticket and merchandise sales to organisations close to their hearts including an LGBTQI scholarship charity and an animal shelter.
