There is no political support for the proposal that previous municipal council Åsa Karlsson from Swedish Social Democratic Party (Socialdemokraterna) wrote about expanding the municipality’s guidelines with general flagging during West Pride festival.
In a political proposal from Åsa Karlsson (S), it says, among other things, that the rainbow flag stands for pride and diversity, tolerance and everyone’s equal value and that there are several municipalities in the county that pay attention to the Pride Week in this way. Therefore, Munkedal municipality should also hoist the rainbow flag.
The municipal council Jan Hognert (Moderaterna – Moderate Party – Swedish Conservative Party) and Matheus Enholm (Sverigedemokraterna – Swedish Democrats – Sweden’s right wing party – known for xenophobia rhetoric that includes LGBTQphobia) appealed to reject the proposal from Socialdemokraterna, the local newspaper bohuslaningen.se reports.
The proposal was rejected with 23 (no) – 11 (yes). One politician abstained from voting.
So that means no rainbow flag in Munkedal during West Pride in Gothenburg this year. These kind of decisions made by the local Moderaterna and Sverigedemokraterna, helps homophobia to grow and says it’s ok to have these kind of values, not only in Munkedal, but everywhere in Sweden and rest of the world.
