The theme for this year's Stockholm Pride is «The key to freedom», a reminder of what the Pride movement was from the beginning - a demonstration and manifestation of rights that give freedom to be who you are and love those you want.

The pandemic has affected LGBTQ people globally and of course also locally in Stockholm. Now is the opportunity to create new meeting places, what is the key to freedom in the public space, in our city and in our own community? And how can we as individuals be keys to our own, or someone else’s freedom?

– Social development and progress for LGBTQ people around the world has many times started with taking a place in the public space. To protest, manifest, be proud and demand basic rights – often in the form of a first historical pride parade and perhaps even a pride festival, says Vix Herjeryd, chairman of Stockholm Pride

The international perspective is of course also included. The freedom for LGBTQ people in Sweden has come a long way in a global comparison, then it is our task to contribute with good examples and solidarity with those who have a long way to go.

Stockholm Pride encourages everyone who wants to participate and contribute with program items at Pride House, Pride Parade or in Pride City during this summer’s festival to keep the theme in mind and find keys to change together.

In 2021, Stockholm Pride will be held between 2-8 August.
