A Queer Black Love Story That’s Still Rare On The Silver Screen
«Jillian's Peak», a series pilot about what it costs to chose happiness, is coming to the 14th Annual New York City Independent Film Festival.
The story is loosely based on the life of creator Charzette Torrance and follows a young African-American woman whose wedding day revelation about her hearts true desires threatens to turn her world upside down. Shot on location in NYC’s Harlem and The Bronx, the series examines the experience of queer identity in the Black community and stars Ariel Paige, Holmes Lindsay IV ( «Power», «Black Mafia Family» STARZ ) and Trell Marcano.
Torrance and her real-life partner Danielle Johnson created «Jillian’s Peak» to tell the stories of LGBTQIA women of colour, a group still underrepresented in television and film, in partnership with seasoned producer Tracey Baker Simmons ( «Sugar Plum Twist», «Book of Love» Hallmark ) and director Frank R. Blenman.
«Jillian’s Peak: Sweet Tea» screens June 16, 2022 at 3:35pm. There will be a panel discussion with the cast and creators immediately following the screening.
