A research project at the University of Gothenburg collects fiction about LGBTQ written in one of the national minority languages and published in Scandinavia. Now they are asking the public for help finding more.
What kind of fiction with an LGBTQ perspective is there anyway? No one knows for sure yet.
Until now, there has been a lack of research that gathers all such literature in one place. Getting an overview of the publication – both older and contemporary – has therefore been difficult, but now the research project Queerlit is creating a database of this literature.
Queerlit collects fiction written in Swedish or in one of the national minority languages Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib or Sami and published in Scandinavia.
Hoping for the public’s help
One of the project’s aims is to gather all the knowledge that exists about Swedish LGBTQ literature. So far they have gathered knowledge from research and now they hope to get the public’s help in finding more books.
– Right now, we are primarily looking for literature in Finnish, Yiddish, Meänkieli, Romani Chib and Sami. Such literature is hardly treated at all in research and therefore we depend on tips from the public, says Sam Holmqvist who is one of the project participants and responsible for the inventory of literature at Queerlit.
