Grindr, a famous gay social networking app, has issued a warning to its Egyptian users, as authorities mimic community members in order to target and arrest LGBTQ+ people using digital platforms.

A major homosexual social networking app warned its Egyptian users on Friday that police are impersonating community members in order to target LGBTQ+ people, thehindu.com reports.

When Egyptian users open the Grindr app, they will display the following warning in Arabic and English:

«We have been alerted that Egyptian police is actively making arrests of gay, bi, and trans people on digital platforms. They are using fake accounts and have also taken over accounts from real community members who have already been arrested and had their phones taken. Please take extra caution online and offline, including with accounts that may have seemed legitimate in the past».
