According to recent research, nearly one in two young Indigenous LGBTIQA+ Australians have tried suicide.
In an Australia nationwide study, more than 600 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people between the ages of 14 and 25 who also identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or asexual were polled.
The results, which were released Monday, revealed that roughly one in five of the individuals had attempted suicide in the previous year.
More than 90% of individuals surveyed in the Walkern Katatdjin: Rainbow Knowledge survey, the first of its kind, reported having suffered high or very high levels of psychological anguish in the two weeks prio, abc.net.au reports.
