Every one of the 32 NHL teams hosts Pride Nights or a night of comparable celebration for the LGBTQ+ community.

It looks like this season’s festivities won’t be as vibrant.

First, the league declared last summer that players would not be permitted to wear speciality jerseys during warm-ups. last announcement followed months of protests from a few players over the donning of jerseys with Pride Night themes.

Additionally, according to Jeff McLean, co-founder of the Pride Tape company, players will no longer be permitted to wrap their sticks with the rainbow-coloured adhesive tape for any on-ice activities. Pride Tape was introduced in 2016 with help from the NHL, latimes.com reports.

Sound like NHL just wants to pink wash NHL, sad for NHL players that really are an ally with the LGBTQ community.
