LGBTI campaigners and allies rallied on 10 July outside the Turkish embassy in London, to protest against the last minute banning of Istanbul Pride, the violent police assaults on the marchers and escalating hate crimes against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities in Turkey.
The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) today condemned the Turkish government’s use of pepper spray, water cannons, and rubber bullets to stop the 13th Istanbul lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) Pride Parade, which was scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 28.
Following the naming of transsexual Öykü Özen as a candidate nominee from the main opposition, another transsexual has applied to run for Parliament from the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP.
