The small Swedish coastal idyll Hamburgsund with only 900 inhabitants today celebrates Pride for the first time.

Behind the ambitious initiative is Jon Larsson, who grew up in the small coastal town. “As a heterosexual man, I slipped around on a shrimp sandwich. It would be very stupid if I close my eyes to all that has not had as easy” he said to the Swedish LGBT magazine QX.se

I am a heterosexual man and has lived a privileged life from when I was born. I have never had to get out or sneak with my sexual orientation. It is actually one of the reasons that I wanted to start a pride, to lift those who do not have it as easy, says Jon to QX.

That he now has settled the matter and created the Pride festival is largely due to a tendency he noticed in the locality.

We need it here, it’s a tricky small town. It may not be more limited than other places but there is a jargon among teenagers where certain words are used as a term of abuse. With pride we get a chance to grab the children and young people and ensure that they put their words better and better values than my generation had.
