Kalb, Segal and Tudor endorsed by PDA
On Thursday, July 29, Progressives Democrats of America (PDA) gave their national endorsement to three progressive Democrats running for Congress: Larry Kalb in Washington’s second congressional district, David Segal in Rhode Island’s first district, and from Florida’s 12th congressional district, Doug Tudor.
Upon learning of the national endorsement, Larry Kalb said this: “PDA looks forward with a vision that charts a promising future and I give voice to that vision for my district. Together, our vision will grow with unwavering character to strengthen democratic values and create a positive future for generations to come. Thanks very much!” Visit Kalb for Congress: www.kalbforcongress.com.
Dave Segal commented, “I’m honored to receive the support of the Progressive Democrats of America. The members of PDA are national leaders in the fight for health care for all, for ending the wars, and for making sure that our elected officials represent the will of the people, not the corporations and very wealthy that fund their campaigns.” Visit David Segal for Congress: votesegal.com.
Doug Tudor, who also received a national endorsement in 2008, offered this: “I am humbled and honored to once again be endorsed by the Progressive Democrats of America,” said Doug Tudor. “PDA’s national endorsement means Team Tudor can add over 70,000 activists to the hundreds of grassroots supporters already on the ground in Central Florida. It is a clear marker for every primary voter in FL-12 that I am representing the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party. As I have said so many times, this primary.” Visit Doug Tudor for Congress: www.teamtudor.org.
In the last election, Americans voiced their desire for change, but congressional Republicans have obstructed that change since Obama took office, and many Democrats have capitulated to their demands, weakening legislation in a pattern of appeasement. PDA’s National Director Tim Carpenter said, “Returning Congress to the Republicans would be a mistake of huge proportion if change is what you seek; we need to elect Democrats with backbones, candidates unafraid to fight for working families—we need to elect progressive Democrats.”
In addition to Kalb, Segal and Tudor, PDA has endorsed Marleine Bastienne (FL-17), David Gill (IL-15), Bill Hedrick (CA-44), and Jonathan Tasini (NY-15). Kalb faces a primary eleciotn on August 17; Bastienne and Tudor face August 24 primary elections.
PDA-endorsed candidates must respond to the PDA endorsement questionnaire, demonstrate their support of PDA’s positions, and receive a local chapter endorsement before becoming eligible for the national endorsement.
Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country. We seek to build a party and government controlled by citizens, not corporate elites–with policies that serve the broad public interest, not just private interests. PDA is a grassroots PAC operating inside the Democratic Party, and outside in movements for peace and justice; our inside/outside strategy is guided by the belief that a lasting majority will require a revitalized Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles.
