Give Ugandan gays visas
American activists have called on countries to offer asylum to gays from Uganda after a tabloid there outed over 100 people, calling for them to be hanged. Rolling Stone newspaper (not connected to the US music magazine of the same name) has so far printed two separate lists of alleged homosexuals – provoking censure from across the globe.
Individuals named in both lists have reportedly been harassed and forced to leave their homes after being identified in the tabloid, Pink Paper reports.
Judge orders Ugandan paper to stop publishing ‘gay lists’
A judge temporarily ordered a tabloid in Uganda to stop publishing lists identifying people it claims are gay after an advocacy organisation filed a lawsuit, CNN reports.
The order came a day after Rolling Stone — which has no relation to the iconic U.S. music magazine — published a list of people it said were gay, urging readers to report them to police.
According to CNN : In the last edition, the newspaper promised to list 100 of what it called the country’s top gays. The first edition listed several gays and lesbians, with photos and addresses alongside a yellow banner reading “hang them.”
