Cardinal Peter Turkson, the man who could become the next pope and therefore be the first black pope in modern history, caused controversy last night (February 19) as he blamed gay priests for the sex abuse scandals that have riddled the Catholic church.
Turkson, a Ghanaian, told CNN that African churches were immune to such sex scandals because their culture does not engage in homosexuality.
“African traditional systems kind of protect or have protected its population against this tendency”.
