
You can call the Irish president gay and get away with it
"The current president of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, is a poet, acknowledged homosexual, and nearly as outspoken as his predecessors," it was announced on the Forbes website.
Well, President Higgins is a poet, and he’s outspoken to the point where he sails close to the constitutional wind, but he’s a heterosexual father of four. The confusion would appear to be with Senator David Norris – the gay activist who through legal action forced the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland in 1993 – who came fifth in the presidential election which Higgins won.
