Largest LGBTQ Resource App Acquires Long Disputed Internet Domain.
Last week, Gayborhood, a resource directory app for the LGBTQ community, finalised the acquisition of Gayborhood.com. The domain was sold by DomainNameSales.com, with a price tag upwards of $44,000. While Gayborhood will not disclose the negotiated amount they purchased the domain for, this marks a clear move to establish the company as the official ‘Gayborhood’ of the LGBTQ community. Many large cities refer to neighbourhoods that have strong ties to the LGBTQ community as Gayborhoods; the app aims to showcase businesses friendly to the community that are also outside of these smaller boroughs.
The acquisition of Gayborhood.com has long been a goal of the company. Gayborhood’s Chief Operating Officer Thomas Ryan-Lawrence said, “Making such a large investment on a startup budget was not feasible five years ago, but now that we are more established, it is time to pull the trigger and clearly cement our brand name online. The content previously on the site was not in line with our brand and we want to remove any confusion about who we are.”
To follow on the momentum of the new domain name, Gayborhood is slated to release a new website along with iOS & Android apps in the summer of 2015. “It’s all new, you won’t even believe it’s the same app,” stated marketing manager Paul Beauchamp. “The new app and website have a completely redesigned user interface. We took into account the suggestions and reviews from actual users and made them a reality.”
