
Gay pride hero, Darren Batey , dies aged 32
Shocked friends have paid tribute to a "fantastic and tireless campaigner", Darren Batey, from Millom, who has died two months after playing a leading role in a town's inaugural gay pride event.
Many people met Darren Batey when he was volunteers manager for Bolton’s first LGBT event held between October 16 and 18 in the town to great acclaim.

Condolences and messages of support were also sent by the charities which Darren worked so closely with. The Albert Kennedy Trust tweeted that they were “hugely saddened” by the loss, while Bolton Pride said they had been “so lucky” to have had him on the team, attitude.co.uk reports.
A crowdfunding appeal has been set up in Darren’s memory called Darren’s Farewell Fund, which has so far raised £5000 in 24 hours – the ultimate testament to a man who spent his life fundraising to improve life for others.
