“Lost” Tom of Finland picture clubbed at auction
Tuesday night was the work of Tom of Finland, previously listed as missing, under the hammer at an auction in Kansas City.
A large part of the Finnish artist Tom of Finland (Tuoko Laaksonen) works have disappeared over the years. Often listed these as missing. But the picture “The Picnic Morgan” became in the great Tom of Finland XXL-book from Taschen Verlag named as one of the few where you “know” that the picture really was destroyed.
But “The Picnic Morgan” turned up at an auction held by KC Auction Company Tuesday night (CET time). The auction house auctioned a collection of the Chicago-based collector and interior designer David Hood. After his death, his children chose to sell off a large part of the collection, Swedish LGBT site QX.se reports.
During the last three hours of the auction the bids raised from 6450 dollars to the finally go for 22 769.50 dollars.
To QX.se the auction house representative, Jason Roske, says that the work “is definitely an original.”
