
Sky News escapes Ofcom investigation over Orlando debate despite 253 complaints
A discussion on Sky News about the attack on gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando won't be looked into by Ofcom, despite it ending with columnist Owen Jones walking off-set and garnering more than 250 complaints.
Viewers of the on-air debate complained that presenter Mark Longhurst and guest, Julia Hartley-Brewer, had dismissed Jones’s view that the shooting specifically targeted the LGBT community, consequently causing offence, www.express.co.uk reports.
Longhurst, who was conducting the Press Preview programme on June 12, said the gunman had targeted “human beings” in general, appearing to wave aside the fact that it was an apparent hate crime.
