Transgender victor leads backlash against Donald Trump
The signs of a progressive backlash against Donald Trump's presidency began in key U.S state elections overnight, including a victory by the nation's first openly transgender candidate.
In a historic result, Democrat Danica Roem beat Republican incumbent Bob Marshall, one of Virginia‘s most socially conservative lawmakers, in the election in the northern Virginia district, reports AP.
She unseated Marshall, one of the state’s longest serving and most socially conservative lawmakers.
A few months ago he had sponsored a bill that would have restricted which bathrooms she could use.
