Swedish LGBTQ community are grieving gay icon Lill-Babs
Sweden’s beloved Lill-Babs died after short time illness.
Lill-Babs was also been hugely loved by the LGBTQ audience, and she has performed in many LGBTQ contexts, both at Pride and under the yearly QX Gaygala, where she performed and shared prices.
In one of her final acting roles, she also consolidated her role as gay icon when she played lesbian Gugge in SVT’s popular Bonus family (Bonusfamiljen).
She has competed for Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song April April in 1961.
Lill-Babs did a big interview with the Swedish QX magazine for pride in 2006, when she performed at Stockholm Pride. Then she expressed that she never saw any difference between gay or straight.
I’ve been hanging out with so many people and meet so many interesting people without thinking about who they falling in love with.
She continued to tell her open attitude to whether her daughters would come out as gay:
“She’s my daughter, above all, and it’s her life and I’ll be there no matter who she fall in love with.”
On behalf of the entire MySoCalledGayLife.co.uk family we would like to pay our sincere condolences to Lill-Babs´s loved ones. She will be missed!
