The Warwick Rowers Back at last on Instagram! Because of public pressure !
The Warwick Rowers project is a social enterprise and gay/straight alliance that dates back to 2009, when their first calendar was launched.
The Warwick Rowers Instagram account was been permanently deactivated without any reason communicated to them (Déjà vu like YouTube does) , they states in a tweet today. 3 hours ago they were back online again.
The LGBTQ supporters Warwick Rowers hoping this is a mistake and are waiting for Instagram to allow them back on the platform to keep spreading their positive message.
The team has won a large number of awards for excellence, innovation and social impact, including twice being voted the UK Charity Calendar of the Year. They aim to achieve three things through their calendars, films and other products:
- to promote positive, inclusive and respectful attitudes towards people of all genders and sexualities through the content that we create
- to fund university rowing and particularly to make rowing more accessible to a wider number of students
- to fund the ongoing development of Sport Allies, a registered charity with a mission to promote sport, and particularly team sport, as an inclusive and supportive route to personal growth for everyone
MySoCalledGayLife.co.uk are extremely disappointed in Instagram, seems like Instagram are following the steps of YouTube‘s anti-LGBTQ line. The Warwick Rowers are back online because of public pressure. I’m asking myself would they be back if the public pressure hasn’t been there ? When it can happen to big Instagram accounts, it would surely happen to much smaller account – would Instagram change their mind then too ? I’m sorry Instagram – I don’t forgive and forget that easily!
The Warwick Rowers are unique with inclusive message and are very loved by the LGBTQ community.
So our message message to Instagram is :
Picking on The Warwick Rowers you are picking on us too.
