The decision was made after a visit by the Moderata Ungdomsförbundet (Moderate Youth Association) gave the municipality a pride flag – which was uncomfortably experienced by the municipality’s receptionist according to the municipality.
On Monday, the Moderate Youth Association’s leading representative Benjamin Dousa and their Blekinge chairman Johannes Thernström visited the municipal hall to hand over a Pride flag.
They had filmed at the same time as they came in to deliver the pride flag, says Lisa Svanberg, head of communications at the municipality.
The initiative came as a reaction to the Samstyret’s criticised decision to no longer hoist the Pride flag on the roof of the City Hall in connection with the Pride Festival – something that has been done annually since 2013.
The Sölvesborg municipality are Sverigedemokraterna (Sweden Democrats) proud example of how to run a municipality in Sweden. Sverigedemokraterna are far right-wing political party with racial, homophobic and LGBTQ phobic views. The party grew from Neo-Nazis groups in Sweden end of the 1980’s – a part of their history, Sverigedemokraterna don’t like to talk about.
